Biography
Kamar’s principal areas of practice focuses on advising clients on complex international business transactions, mergers and acquisitions, private equity, dispositions, strategic investments, establishment of funds, and general corporate advisory work in the Middle East and North Africa, including Turkey. Before joining Vinson & Elkins, Kamar was an associate at major international law firms in London and Dubai.

- Represented a US stock exchange in connection with its strategic investment in an international stock exchange based in the Dubai International Financial Centre
- Assisted in the representation of a regional private equity firm in connection with its USD1.6 billion disposal of its fertilizer business in Egypt
- Represented a regional private equity firm in connection with its acquisition of a strategic stake in a luxury yacht manufacturer in Turkey
Strategic Investments
- Assisted in the representation of an Islamic investment group in Dubai in connection with its USD 1 billion joint venture to establish a Retakaful group with subsidiaries in the Middle East and Far East
- Represented a GCC investment company based in Kuwait in connection with its joint venture with a reinsurance company in Bermuda to establish reinsurance companies in the Middle East region
Funds and Advisory Work
- Assisted in the representation of a private bank in connection with the establishment of an Islamic feeder-fund vehicle
- Assisted in the representation of international investment banks in connection with their proposed offers of securities in the Emirate of Dubai and the Dubai International Financial Centre
- Assisted in the representation of a major US insurance company in connection with the establishment of new insurance company in the UK
Structured Finance
- Assisted in the representation of Liquidity Management Centre, as lead arrangers, on a $140 million Shari’a-compliant aircraft sale and lease-back arrangement for Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Co.; proceeds of the facility utilized to fund the operation of Gulf Air
