  • Texas Supreme Court and First Court of Appeals: Primary author of multiple briefs leading to favorable outcome for a Houston hospital. The trial court dismissed the plaintiff’s health care liability claims against the hospital because the plaintiff failed to file a timely expert report. The First Court of Appeals reversed the trial court’s dismissal. The Texas Supreme Court granted the hospital’s petition for review, vacated the court of appeals’ judgment, and remanded to the court of appeals for further consideration in light of a case decided by the supreme court during the pendency of the hospital’s petition for review. On remand, the First Court of Appeals affirmed the trial court’s dismissal.
  • First Court of Appeals (Houston): Wrote brief and obtained judgment affirming summary judgment in favor of non-profit children’s advocacy organization in suit by two children and their father, who were upset by the types of questions asked during court-ordered forensic interviews of the children.
  • U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit: Helped to obtain judgment affirming summary judgment in favor of defendants in dispute between two oil and gas companies. The plaintiff sued in Texas state court regarding a claimed interest in a mineral lease located on the Outer Continental Shelf off the coast of Louisiana. The defendants removed the case to federal court on the basis of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act. Issues on appeal included propriety of removal, and existence and enforceability of a contract.
