Biography
James is a member of V&E’s worldwide Energy Transactions and Projects practice group. He advises industry clients in the oil and gas sector on transactions in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the F.S.U. James has extensive experience advising on a wide-range of energy-related projects and regulatory matters, including in LNG sales, production-sharing arrangements, project development, joint ventures, and mergers and acquisitions. James currently serves as the Managing Partner of the Tokyo office.

Representative Experience
LNG View All
Representing a Canadian energy company in connection with the development of an LNG liquefaction facility and export terminal at Bish Cove, near Kitimat, British Columbia, including advising on the conduct of its marketing and LNG sales arrangements
Represented an Asian utility company in connection with the negotiation and documentation of various LNG master spot purchase and sales arrangements
Advised a project company with respect to the conduct of its marketing and LNG sales arrangements for the development of an LNG project in Gladstone, Queensland, Australia Upstream Oil and Gas View All
Advised an international oil and gas company on the acquisition of a company with an indirect interest in two oil and gas fields in Kazakhstan
Represented an international oil and gas company on the proposed farm-in to various production sharing interests off-shore India
Assisted BG International Limited during negotiations of the exploration and production sharing agreement executed with the Government of the Sultanate of Oman for Block 60 onshore the Sultanate of Oman Regulatory and Infrastructure View All
- Advised an Indian energy company on the proposed Ras Issa refinery project in Yemen
- Represented an oil trader on the acquisition of an interest in a petroleum products storage facility in Aqaba, Jordan
- Represented an Eastern European Government on a proposed long-term wastewater concession agreement
Pipelines
- Advised an international oil company on various issues in relation to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium Project
- Represented the member of the EPC contractor consortium responsible for the procurement and supply of line pipe for a pipeline through the Black Sea
- Advised a U.S. energy company on regulatory issues arising from a proposed open access pipeline linking the Norwegian Continental Shelf to the Bacton Terminal
Nuclear and Mining View All
- Advised a Japanese trading company on the proposed assignment of various joint venture arrangements over uranium mining interests in Canada
- Advised a Japanese trading company on the restructuring of the financing of a chrome mining project in South Africa
- Advised a Japanese trading company on uranium trading arrangements
