Biography
Chuck is a partner in Vinson & Elkins' Intellectual Property practice. Chuck's practice focuses on intellectual property litigation, including patent, copyright, and trade secret issues, as well as contract litigation arising from technology licensing. He has litigated patents relating to semiconductor circuit design and semiconductor manufacturing equipment and processes, wireless communication systems, encryption and error-control coding algorithms, e-commerce, Internet applications, and other software technologies. Chuck also has represented high-technology companies in license negotiations and settlement discussions in addition to working with clients to develop intellectual property strategies in litigation and before the United States Patent Office.

  • Represented a global leader in nanomanufacturing technology in various patent litigation matters involving plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition, methods and devices for chemical mechanical polishing, laser pattern generators used in photomask creation, equipment for automatic wafer defect detection/optical inspection, heat transfer thermodynamics, methods and processes for chemical vapor deposition of tungsten, and methods and systems for depositing metal via physical vapor deposition, chemical vapor deposition, and electrochemical deposition
  • Represented one of India’s leading technology companies in patent litigation involving numerous aspects of the structure and design of optical media, including CD-R/CD-RW, DVD+R/DVD+R, and DVD-R/DVD-RW technologies
  • Represented one of the world’s leading e-commerce companies in patent litigation involving methods for conducting Internet-based auctions, methods for making user manipulated database entries, and methods for conducting on-line searching of multiple, different databases with a single search request
