Jordan, W. Carl

Biography
Carl Jordan has more than 30 years experience representing employers in a broad range of employment, ERISA, and labor-related trial and appellate matters. He also regularly counsels clients concerning their most important and sensitive employment issues. Carl has extensive experience advising and defending employers with respect to ERISA, FLSA, and discrimination matters involving class and systemic issues, whistleblower matters including under Sarbanes-Oxley, breach of contract and wrongful termination claims by executives, mandatory dispute resolution programs, and internal investigations concerning systemic and highly sensitive matters. He represents clients in federal and state trial and appellate courts, before arbitrators, and in administrative proceedings before numerous federal and state agencies.

Carl has been recognized as a leading employment and labor practitioner in various publications including Chambers USA, The International Who's Who of Business Lawyers, The Best Lawyers in America, Euromoney's Guide to the World's Leading Labor and Employment Lawyers, the National Law Journal and Texas Monthly. Chambers USA has described Carl as an attorney who is "equally comfortable in big-ticket litigation or in the boardroom" and who "continues to carve out a place for himself at the leading edge." Human Resource Executive and LawDragon recently named him "one of the most powerful employment attorneys in America." Carl was elected a Fellow in the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers in 1997 (the year after its founding), has served as the General Counsel of the Texas Employment Law Council (whose members are prominent Texas employers) since its founding in 1984, and is a director of the American Employment Law Council. He is certified in labor and employment law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and is an honors graduate of Harvard Law School.

Carl speaks extensively on a wide range of employment topics, including at national conferences. Some of his more recent presentations have addressed disparate impact and other age discrimination issues, alternatives to and special issues arising during reductions in force, and managing whistleblowers and defending against their claims. He also has written extensively on these and other employment related topics, and has contributed numerous chapters to various employment law treatises.

Carl serves as co-head of the firm's Employment Controversies and Labor practice group.
