Overview
The firm requires that the first half of the summer be spent in one of our offices, and the second half at a public interest organization approved by the firm and in any U.S. city where the firm has an office. The firm will sponsor two law students who are clerking at Vinson & Elkins for the Public Interest Split Summer Program. During the second half of the summer while the student works at the public interest organization, Vinson & Elkins will continue to pay the student the Vinson & Elkins weekly summer associate salary for a maximum of six weeks.

We have sponsored split summers with:

  • ARC of Texas
  • Legal Aid of NorthWest Texas
  • Catholic Charities of Houston and Washington, DC
  • The Legal Aid Society of New York
  • Earthjustice
  • Texas RioGrande Legal Aid
  • Texas Fair Defense Project
  • The Environmental Defense Fund
  • The Natural Resources Defense Council
  • Lone Star Legal Aid
  • The ABA Standing Committee on Law and National Security
  • MD Anderson Hospital

Written proposals for the 2015 Summer Associate Program are due on November 3, 2014. The firm will select its Public Interest clerks shortly thereafter. If more than two proposals are received, the selection will be made by lottery. If you have any questions or are interested in this opportunity for the summer of 2015, please notify Stephanie Kuhles, Talent Manager, at skuhles@velaw.com. Please note, you must have received a summer associate position in one of our offices to apply for the Public Interest Split Summer Program.
