  • Acting in an UNCITRAL arbitration concerning claims of several hundred million dollars arising out of a series of take-or-pay purchase and sale agreements for liquefied natural gas

  • Advising an agricultural and specialty chemical manufacturing company regarding construction issues in relation to a large-scale ammonia project

  • Advising a European construction company in relation to the installation of offshore oil equipment

  • Obtained a favorable result for a major energy company following an arbitration hearing against a contractor concerning the construction of a micro-fuel handling facility as part of a US $1.5 billion energy infrastructure project in the Caribbean

  • Obtained a favorable result in defending against a multimillion dollar force majeure claim brought by a major energy player under a take-or-pay agreement for the delivery of LNG

  • Obtained a favorable result for a West African University in defending against a USD 165 million enforcement action brought in the Southern District of New York

  • Represented a consortium in connection with disputes arising under an EPC and related agreement for the construction of a large-scale LNG facility in Australia

  • Successfully represented a major international oil and gas company in an attempt to annul a USD 200 million award in an investor-state arbitration related to a project in South America

  • Represented a global natural gas company in an ICC arbitration brought by an energy services company related to turbine equipment for use in a US LNG facility

  • Represented a global natural gas company in an ICC arbitration brought by a European engineering company related to a combined heat and power facility in the Caribbean

  • Represented an EPC contractor in an ICC arbitration concerning claims of nearly one hundred million dollars relating to an oil refinery project in the Middle East

  • Successfully represented El Paso International Company defending against Argentina’s application to annul the ICSID award in El Paso’s favor; the annulment was dismissed affirming our client’s award

  • Advised an oil and gas contractor in relation to a dispute which arose out of a suite of contracts to develop an oil field off the coast of Venezuela

  • Represented U.S. investors in an expropriation and unfair treatment claim against a Central American state under a multilateral investment treaty

  • Represented two individual investors in related arbitrations brought against the Republic of Indonesia, in relation to the aftermath of the collapse of a bank in 2008

  • (N.D. Tex., W.D. Tex., E.D. Tex.): Part of a litigation team representing a manufacturer of engineered wood products in a series of products liability lawsuits in Texas

  • Favorable resolution of litigation and administrative appeals in connection with the following issues of first impression in Harris County regarding property tax valuations: (1) proper methodologies for appraising major office buildings, including discounted cash flow techniques recognizing developer capital expenditure requirements; (2) valuation discounts for asbestos-containing materials in office buildings; (3) proper methodologies for appraising multiple developer-owned properties (e.g., condominium units, subdivision lots, etc.); and (4) identification of intangible asset values in connection with office buildings and shopping centers and the deletion of such components from the taxable real estate value
