James is a member of V&E’s worldwide Energy Transactions and Projects practice group and is based in Tokyo, Japan. He advises industry clients in the oil and gas sector on transactions in Asia, Australia, the Middle East, Africa and North America. James has extensive experience advising on the structuring and development of large-scale oil and gas projects, LNG sales arrangements, and energy-related mergers and acquisitions.

  • A Japanese trading company on the negotiation of a liquefaction and regasification tolling agreement for capacity in a proposed LNG export facility in the United States of America
  • A Japanese trading company in connection with the off-take and on-sale of LNG from a proposed liquefaction project in West Africa
  • An independent energy company on the negotiation of LNG sales arrangements from the Wheatstone LNG Project in Australia
  • Apache Corporation in $2 billion development of the Kitimat LNG project, Canada’s first in British Columbia, including construction, LNG sales, and marine shipping
  • A Japanese trading company on the negotiation of the licence and joint operating arrangements for the development of a gas field in Southern Africa

Liquefied Natural Gas

  • An Asian utility company in connection with the negotiation and documentation of various LNG master spot purchase and sales arrangements
  • A project company with respect to the conduct of its marketing and LNG sales arrangements for the development of an LNG project in Gladstone, Queensland, Australia
  • A project company with respect to the negotiation and drafting of multiple long-term time-charter parties for the proposed delivery of LNG from an Australian Greenfield project on a DES basis
  • An importer of liquefied natural gas into a Middle Eastern country that will utilize floating storage and onboard regasification

Upstream Oil & Gas

  • An international oil and gas company on the acquisition of a company with an indirect interest in two oil and gas fields in Kazakhstan
  • An international oil and gas company on the proposed farm-in to various production sharing interests off-shore India
  • BG International Limited during negotiations of the exploration and production sharing agreement executed with the Government of the Sultanate of Oman for Block 60 onshore the Sultanate of Oman
  • An international oil and gas company on the proposed farm-in to certain Blocks off-shore Equatorial Guinea

Regulatory & Infrastructure

  • An Indian energy company on the proposed Ras Issa refinery project in Yemen
  • An oil trader on the acquisition of an interest in a petroleum products storage facility in Aqaba, Jordan
  • The company which administers the New Electricity Trading Arrangements, on modifications to arrangements which were introduced in the restructuring of the wholesale electricity market in England and Wales
  • An energy company in the proposed formation of a Libyan-registered joint venture company through which the joint venture parties will import, manufacture, and distribute bitumen products in Libya

Pipelines

  • An international oil company on various issues in relation to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium Project
